“Giving students in DeKalb County the key to the world”
What is Gifted Passports?Gifted Passports is a program established under 501(c)3 nonprofit organization “Running For The People.” Running For The People was founded by Three-Time USA Olympian and Olympic Gold Medalist DeeDee Trotter. DeeDee is a Georgia native and a former DeKalb County student who attended both Cross Keys & Cedar Grove High School. Through the gift of Track & Field, DeeDee has traveled all over the world! She has ventured to 68 different international cities and 37 different countries all by the age of 36. This experience is something she humbly acknowledges as one of the greatest gifts to come from her 15 years of dedication to sports. Now recently retired from running, DeeDee has returned to her hometown and is now dedicated to making sure that students, where she grew up, will be afforded the same opportunities as those of surrounding counties; as it relates to educational travel. This passion was ignited when DeeDee realized that schools in Dekalb County were not being made fully aware of the possibilities associated with educational travel or how to effectively provide
these opportunities to as many students/families as possible.
DeeDee created Running For The People, not only to help people in need but also to support the growth of our communities by helping in any way possible, especially when related to our youth. That is how and why she created Gifted Passports. She truly believes that by gifting students with passports it will greatly increase their, maturity, growth, confidence, awareness of the world, diversity, their desire to climb higher, and their drive to go farther in life. These are all attributes that will have a positive effect on our children and our communities. Although DeeDee is no longer running on the track, she is always be running to help the people.
The Gifted Passports program was created to assist families with eliminating one of the additional expenses associated with international travel. Our efforts will be to help families complete one of the required task necessary for their student to travel abroad. Every student who receives a passport will posse the key to the world. This will give them access to travel opportunities years 9 beyond their school trip, which truly makes this a priceless gift.
The long view of what we see being achieved by this initiative is:
The goal of Gifted Passports is to gift 500 students in Dekalb County public high schools with a free passport! These passports will be gifted to students traveling internationally in the year 2020 and onward with the worlds leading educational travel company Education First, also known as “EF”. Passports are the “key to the world”, please help us reach our goal of gifting these passports to 500 aspiring Dekalb County students
